View Full Version : Blank page at login

Hi,
I have been happily using the whois script for about a month without any problems. I recently moved hosting providers and am having a spot of trouble getting it working again.
I get the usual screen that advises you to make various files writeable when you first FTP it to your site. I then I get presented with the login screen on making the amendments, as expected, but when i try to actually login I just get a blank screen at: whois/admin/index.php. No errors, nothing...
It's Linux hosting again with MySQL and PHP 4 support. I read the other articles relating to PHP 4, but I'm sure my last host was the same... :( It's the latest version of the script.
I'm not the most technical of people, so bear with me here... any ideas what could be going wrong?
Thanks,
Michael

Not sure if this helps, but when I actually try to search on a domain i get:
Error Loading EP-Dev Whois Script: The specified absolute path is incorrect.
on page: http://www.create4web.co.uk/whois/whois.php
It is definately there on the server with the rest of the folder. have I forgot something really obvious here or is it something to do with the host?
Thanks,
Michael

The script is probably dying from an error but is not reporting it.
Did you say that you upgraded (or did I misread your post?)? If you upgraded, your configuration file(s) may be corrupt and causing problems (eh, hope you backed up those).
If this is an upgrade issue AND if you have a backup of the config folder, I would:
1. Delete everything in the script's whois folder.
2. Upload a brand new install (but don't go to admin section).
3. Upload your backed up config folder and overwrite the files.
4. Ensure all permissions are good (666 for the config files, 666 for whois.php).
5. Visit the admin panel and try to perform upgrade again.
If you were not upgrading when this happened or if you don't have a config backup, the fastest way that I can help you is if you send me your FTP information (just send me a PM or email me at patiek [never ever any spam (at)] ep-dev.com ).

Thanks for the reply.
I have moved hosts as opposed to upgrading the script itself, I am using version 2.1
I tried what you suggested with the same result. I then tried a complete new install (config files and all), as don't mind starting over completely as my site is still in development and nothing would be lost at this point. I am getting the same result when trying to start from fresh.
So a fresh install on a completely different server to what I was using when successful is giving me the blank screen.
I will PM you my FTP details.
Thanks,
Michael

I think it is your PHP version. It is REALLY old.
You have PHP 4.2.2 installed, with a build date of Feb 25 2003. That is over two years old.
You should consider asking your host to upgrade. I believe the script will only work with 4.3.x and later.
If your host refuses to upgrade, I suggest you move. Not only is that version of PHP old but it also has several vulnerabilities.
If you are looking for a webhost, check out http://www.proto-host.com . They keep their software up-to-date. I know so because it is my hosting company :)
Anyway, ask your host to upgrade PHP. If they do not, I suggest you move to another host (if not Proto-Host, ask prior to signing up to make sure they have an updated version of PHP).
