Thread: Counter Stats having a problem

  1. Counter Stats having a problem

I have had my counter in place since last June without any real problems. My Host just migrated me to a new server, and I now have a small problem. First I noticed that the server time was now 2 hours early, so I went into the setup file and changed the clock offset, worked fine. But now I notice that when I go into stats that the count of online users is higher then shows on my home page. Sometimes by as many as 10.

Anyone have an answer on this.

    A couple of things:

    a) The stats folder is not meant to be a reliable real-time statistic (so it isn't necessarily up-to-date).

    b) The above (a) is especially true when time offset is set.

The /stats/ folder was not developed with the intention of ever being released. It was actually developed as a local script that I could use when developing and testing statistics. I released the /stats/ folder only because I thought some people would get some use out of it.

In the end, the "online users" counter that is displayed on your website (and not the /stats/ folder) is the most up-to-date figure. The /stats/ online figure will likely be incorrect so long as time offset is set. Again, this is because /stats/ was added as an "extra" rather than the counter's main intention.
