I've got a nice community site running with phpnuke and the modded phpbb forums. I'd really like to move things over to IPB, the news articles and forums posts are second only to the user accounts. Since you've got the "syncing" between the two I figured you could help.

Have you looked into IPBNuke.net ?

What someone really should do is port my EP-Dev Forum News Script into modules / plugins for these CMS scripts. That way one could use the forums for their news.

I don't understand exactly what you are wanting? How is your forum modified to work with PHPBB?

Couldn't you just:
1) Use IPB's phpBB -> IPB
2) Install this hack? Or use IPBNuke?

Actually with a slight modification to the nuke database Nuke_users to Nuke_bbusers and the phpbb convert script will work.
